About Us

About Us

The University church of Christ is a group of people dedicated to serving Jesus. Our desire is to be Christians only, following Jesus apart from man made confusion and division. We believe the only way to truly accomplish this goal is through obedience to Christ's will as revealed in the Bible (John 14:15, Matthew 7:21). The early Christians enjoyed fellowship and unity through their submission and devotion to the word of God (Acts 2:36-42). Today, we believe seekers of God can still practice simple, New Testament Christianity by following the Bible only. To this end, we strive to share God's redemptive plan through Christ and His church with our community.

What To Expect

Jesus said "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:24). Our services are composed of simple acts of worship we read about in the New Testament. The activities are conducted in a way that allows everyone to participate; however, you will not be singled out or asked to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. If you are planning to visit any of our services, you can expect a period of prayer, singing, and Bible study. Additionally, during our Sunday worship service, we observe the Lord's Supper and the practice of giving financially to the church. Beyond this, you can expect to be treated as a welcomed guest by a friendly group of people.

History of Our Congrgation:

The first meeting of the University church of Christ took place in a conference room at the Hampton Inn on June 17, 2007.
Initially, several area preachers, including John Board, Peter Ray Cole, Brent Gallagher, and Steve Snider, donated their time to help the small group with preaching and teaching.
As the church grew, its meeting place moved to an office space in Westover on August 12, 2007, and then to a larger office suite on October 7, 2007.
The church held its first gospel meeting November 28-30, 2007, with speakers Warren Kenney, Charles Pugh III, and Gene West.
The first full-time preacher was hired in January 2008 thanks to the generous donations of congregations and individuals in West Virginia.
Property for a meeting place was purchased in July 2008 with construction being completed in the fall of 2009. Listed below are several area congregations without whose generous past support University church of Christ would not have been possible.
